Job Title: Java Developer 

Location: Chicago, IL 

Duration: 1 year with the option to extend indefinitely 

 

Additional Information:

The client is looking for a candidate who has strong core Java and heavy FS experience, specifically in trading applications, risk management and decision support applications around trading systems. Must be good in both Windows and Linux environments and ideally have some Bloomberg experience but that is not required. Must also have a strong relational database background, they are 98% Sybase with a sprinkle of Oracle but that's not required, just strong database knowledge. Pending the candidate's background on front vs. back end development they will shift responsibilities for them given their strengths. Typically they average 40% front end and 60% back end The decision on this hire will come down to the amount and breath of financial services systems experience along with communication skills as those are the most important pieces to this search. 

Minimum Requirements

• 4 year Bachelor's Degree or international equivalent (Computer Science or Finance related degree is preferred)

• Candidates must have at least 3 years of development experience in Java

• Previously worked on risk and/or compliance applications

• Proven experience in an IT development role within the financial industry, preferably facing off to Front Office personnel 

• Experience developing new and innovative techniques to assist pre-trade analysis, risk measurement, performance analysis, and portfolio construction

• Familiarity with Bloomberg and other trading applications

• Experience working in a globally distributed team and environment

• Proven ability to handle real time problem solving in a Trading environment

• Development experience in Python, Perl, Java and C/C++

• Practical experience with Swing or other Java based GUI toolkits 

• Functional knowledge of SQL, Sybase, Tomcat, Apache

• Experience in working on both Windows and Linux platforms

• Practical experience with Source code control systems and release management techniques
