[homefamilyarticles] 1 PETER 5:8-11

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

1 Peter 5:8-9
New International Version
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

1 Peter 5:8-9
New Living Translation
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers[a] all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Footnotes
5:9 Greek your brotherhood.
1 Peter 5:8-11
The Message
He Gets the Last Word
8-11 Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You're not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It's the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won't last forever. It won't be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.

1 Peter 5:8-9
New Century Version
8 Control yourselves and be careful! The devil, your enemy, goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to eat. 9 Refuse to give in to him, by standing strong in your faith. You know that your Christian family all over the world is having the same kinds of suffering.

1 Peter 5:8-9
King James Version
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

For those who haven't used them before, no matter how heavy the polyleader is, it's never really a substitute for a full sink line. If I'm fishing somewhere that has lots of subsurface wood like the Pere Marquette in Michigan and I want the line to lay/slide across potential snags, with an unweighted fly moving above the obstructions, I bring a full sink. Polyleaders tend to pull the fly downward into the snags as you strip it closer and the line angle changes.

Anticipating the likely comments about stocking in brook trout streams, one of the regs is in fact for brook trout in Maryland to be catch & release in all put & take waters. TPFR, NCC-TU, Fly Fishers International and Trout Unlimited have all voiced their opposition to stocking in Maryland waters known to harbor native brook trout. [homefamilyarticles] EPHESIANS 2:7-10

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Ephesians 2:8-9
New International Version
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9
King James Version
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9
New Living Translation
8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Ephesians 2:8-10
The Message
7-10 Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It's God's gift from start to finish! We don't play the major role. If we did, we'd probably go around bragging that we'd done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.

Ephesians 2:8-9
New Century Version
8 I mean that you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God. 9 It was not the result of your own efforts, so you cannot brag about it.

[homefamilyarticles] ROMANS 12:1-2

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Romans 12:1
New International Version
A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 12:1
New Living Translation
A Living Sacrifice to God
12 And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.[b]

Footnotes
12:1a Greek brothers.
12:1b Or This is your spiritual worship; or This is your reasonable service.
Romans 12:1-2
The Message
Place Your Life Before God
12 1-2 So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Romans 12:1
New Century Version
Give Your Lives to God
12 So brothers and sisters, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him, which is the spiritual way for you to worship.

Romans 12:1
King James Version
12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

1 Peter 1:24-25
New International Version
24 For,

"All people are like grass,
    and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

1 Peter 1:24-25
New King James Version
24 because

"All flesh is as grass,
And all [a]the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,

Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

1 Peter 1:24-25
New Living Translation
24 As the Scriptures say,

"People are like grass;
their beauty is like a flower in the field.
The grass withers and the flower fades.
25     But the word of the Lord remains forever."[a]

And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.

1 Peter 1:24-25
The Message
22-25 Now that you've cleaned up your lives by following the truth, love one another as if your lives depended on it. Your new life is not like your old life. Your old birth came from mortal sperm; your new birth comes from God's living Word. Just think: a life conceived by God himself! That's why the prophet said,

The old life is a grass life,
    its beauty as short-lived as wildflowers;
Grass dries up, flowers droop,
God's Word goes on and on forever.

This is the Word that conceived the new life in you.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Charlottesville-area fall and winter trout water

You've got all the east slope Shenandoah Park streams to explore! Check out the Rapidan for instance! Only like 30 mins from C-ville. If you go west to Waynesboro, the South River is a point of emphasis for DNR. Then in the Shenandoah Valley itself you've got all the spring creeks and Jefferson National Forest streams, and you should check out Mossy Creek Fly Fishing's website for some leads.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Little/Middle Patuxent Report

I've had good luck on caddis imitations at the Savage Mill area.

Since then I have been in search of beginner friendly spots (within 30-45 minutes of DC) with the best success being around Savage Mill where the Little/Middle Patuxent meet. I am not sure where exactly they do it, but both of those streams are listed as recently stocked by MD. Water levels are relatively low and it is still bearable for wet wading. Even considering that I am probably scaring most of the fish with sloppy casts and poor fly choices I have been able to get brown trout and fall fish on dry flies. The trout have been breaking the surface all week, especially near the fast flowing sections (though I can't figure out what they're eating). This is still a good spot for other beginners, though it is very pressured by folks with spinning rods.

This weekend I am free to drive further from DC out in the general direction of Silver Spring - any recommendations are welcome.

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Hebrews 4:12
New International Version
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12
King James Version
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12
New Living Translation
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Hebrews 4:12-13
The Message
12-13 God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God's Word. We can't get away from it—no matter what.

Hebrews 4:12
New Century Version
12 God's word is alive and working and is sharper than a double-edged sword. It cuts all the way into us, where the soul and the spirit are joined, to the center of our joints and bones. And it judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Strong video explaining Rio Versileaders

Thanks for this great tip, Andrew R. I had wondered about that.

What ips would people recommend for smallmouth fishing here in Virginia? Do I need the full set of Rio Versileaders / AirFlo Polyleaders to cover all conditions, or can I get just the first two, for instance?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Best,
Owen Williams

Airflo sells a polyleader set that has everything from floating to t14 in 5 and 10 ft lengths.

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Proverbs 9:10
New International Version

and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10
New Living Translation
10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

Proverbs 9:10-12
The Message
7-12 If you reason with an arrogant cynic, you'll get slapped in the face;
confront bad behavior and get a kick in the shins.
So don't waste your time on a scoffer;
all you'll get for your pains is abuse.
But if you correct those who care about life,
that's different—they'll love you for it!
Save your breath for the wise—they'll be wiser for it;
tell good people what you know—they'll profit from it.
Skilled living gets its start in the Fear-of-God,
insight into life from knowing a Holy God.
It's through me, Lady Wisdom, that your life deepens,
and the years of your life ripen.
Live wisely and wisdom will permeate your life;
mock life and life will mock you.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Charlottesville-area fall and winter trout water

I've explored the upper Moormans (limited luck although I was fishing somewhat poorly) and I know Whiteoak Canyon moderately well but was wondering what else was in the general area.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Best wading/bank fishing for smallmouth near NW?

Something that may interest you-Rock Creek has scattered smallies up around the the Zoo and downstream somewhat. They're scattered and you'll need to work the water, but you can catch smallies here and there*

*If you're in NW DC I assume you're at GW or Georgetown or American yes?

[homefamilyarticles] PSALM 51:7-15

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Psalm 51:12
New International Version
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Psalm 51:12
New Living Translation
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you.

Psalm 51:12-15
The Message
7-15 Soak me in your laundry and I'll come out clean,
scrub me and I'll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don't look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don't throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Give me a job teaching rebels your ways
so the lost can find their way home.
Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God,
and I'll sing anthems to your life-giving ways.
Unbutton my lips, dear God;
I'll let loose with your praise.

Psalm 51:12
New Century Version
12 Give me back the joy of your salvation.
Keep me strong by giving me a willing spirit.

Psalm 51:12
King James Version
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
