Regan and I just arrived in Pulaski 10:00pm Tues. 18 degrees, 3-5 in of snow tonight , and we will be swinging flies for steelhead the next 2 days. Doesn't get any better.

Forgot to mention - the battery holder and most of the extra wire/cords fits really nicely into a "standard" sized soap dish if you drill a hole to pass the cord through. I think mine was $1 at CVS.

Actually, I'm also looking at something with a suction cup holder for the transducer, like the "Humminbird 4089701 571 HD DI Portable Down Imaging and DualBeam Fishfinder with Soft Portable Case." If that sticks to the side of the kayak then I wouldn't have to be drilling holes in it for a mount. AND, if your battery setup works for it, that's icing on the cake. However, it might be a bit too big for the kayak.

I am going to be in Greenville NC for work in mid-January. Has anyone fished for stripers there? Any thoughts on self guided wading vs. renting a boat vs. hiring a guide? I know my odds go way up with a guide but trying to keep my costs low. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! Tim

Does anyone else suspect that these carp are a different version of carp than the common carp? I remember reading about roach in my giant "Encyclopedia of Fishing" book when I was a kid. My understanding from the book was that roach were most commonly found in Europe. I do remember catching them in Verona Park in New Jersey though.
