Is it safe to use a float tube?

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: How's the water at Fletchers?

Oh I've lost too many anchor rigs myself lol. So now I do what the boat house does. I fashion an anchor out of rope and a river rock. I actually have a specific rock that I bring with me because I got tired of searching for one each time. The best rocks are hefty enough without being unwieldy. It can be windy at Fletcher's and my raft gets blown around quite easily. So rather than chance it I now have a pet rock.

Great report!!! I had the same luck yesterday picking up a few here and there. Nothing crazy! First time out on my kayak and I lost my whole anchor set up due to a snag - how do you rig yours up?!

RE: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Shore access for shad during social distancing

It should be open. This comes from the National Park Service

1. "Allowable Recreational Activities" means outdoor activity with household members that complies with Social Distancing Requirements, as defined in section IV.8 of this Order, and includes the sanitizing of any equipment used both before and after the activity. Outdoor activities should not be conducted with persons other than those from one's own household.

Examples: Walking, hiking, running, dog-walking, biking, rollerblading, scootering, skateboarding, playing tennis, golfing, gardeningand other activities where all participants comply with Social Distancing Requirements and there is no person-to-person contact.

Is area around Fletcher's now closed/restricted?  I know it is typically not great as far as "social distancing" goes, but just wondering.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Shad Fishing Picking Up

Looks like the weekend rain didn't impact the water level too badly. Little falls at 4.5 and only going up to 4.6, turbidity at about 10 right now, temp at 55... should be game on.

The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling, a scrubby plant in a parched field. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look. He was…

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: How's the water at Fletchers?

Water came up a good bit today.  Definitely some color which improved the fishing.  Fish took the fly much more aggressively than they have been. By far my best day of the year.

Not sure what it will go up to but it could be shot tomorrow.  I'd check the gauge before heading out.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fly fishers for healthcare 1st responders

Hi everyone, this will be the first (and last) time I ever post something like this to the TPFR listserv, but given the current situation...

I stood up a GoFundMe campaign yesterday and called up my contacts at HUNGRY Catering here in Arlington.

We're going to start sending hot, healthy, chef-prepared (and safe to eat) meals to healthcare workers (ER, ICU, COVID call center) starting today, probably starting at VA Hospital Center, if everything goes well. We're trying to get beyond the "let's send a pizza over" to a more sustainable model for feeding 1st responders in this area, and then branching out to the other areas HUNGRY covers (Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, Philly, NYC, Boston).

If you can spare a few bucks to support, I think it's going to make a tangible difference right away. DONATE HERE.

And that's the last you'll ever hear about this. Scout's honor.

Respect,
-Sean

P.S. Oh, and who's going shaddin' this w/e?! This guy!

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: How's the water at Fletchers?

Ash,

According to the USGS gauge, turbidity levels are currently fine and the river is rising only modestly and well within fishable range.  I'd give it a go.  Here's the link.  You'll learn to love it.

Here's one to predict levels.  I have both linked on my home screen, that's how important they are to me:
