Sorry, Ed. I misread the date you needed. Same information, and we'll see you on June 11.

Thanks,

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: June Casting Church?

Hi, Ed.

Casting Church will be held on the second Sunday of July (i.e., July 9) from 8 to 11 am at Fletcher's Boathouse (the far end of the lower parking lot).

We can work on drift-boat casts.

See you and your friend there!

Best,
Owen

Believe that is what is known as a michigan cricket.  Very popular for snagging salmon on the great lakes tribs.

Friday, May 19 - 3:30-5pm (max 20 kids, grades 1-3)
Friday, May 26 - 3:30-5pm (max 13 kids, grades 4-5)

As in past years, they will have 20 fishing rods for the kids to use, all with underspin-trigger reels, rigged with slip-bobbers and snelled hooks with artificial bait, SPAM, or other non-live bait. We'll have the kids practice casting on the grass first, without fish hooks, then walk to fishing spots along the 4 Mile Run. It's a true back country/outfitters trip, you ride in on horse back, mules carry our gear and then we stay in camp for three nights, walking to the river each day, and ride out on Sunday morning. The stretch of river is 10 miles long and in the past few years I've been there I've only seen three other fisherman outside of our group.

The trip is guided, and you have a camp cook making your meals each day.

The cost is $1600 + tip, it's hands down the most affordable adventure experience I've come across.

Let me know, I have a couple friends checking their schedules.

Cheers.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: The tidal Potomac at Fletchers and Belle Haven

(this reminds me that maybe next weekend I should check out Gravelly Point, just a lil six weight should do it for teh schoolies I guess.)

Rock Creek is pretty sporadic for schoolies; it's an interesting fishery but IMO it's deteriorated somewhat.

I don't know about big stripers but there is often a run of schoolies that show up towards the end of the shad run into june. Last year there were fish around like 16-22 inches after the shad were mostly done. I assume these were not resident fish.   Other years you see a lot of smaller fish especially up around chain bridge.  Not sure if those are resident or migratory fish but a lot of them are like 10-14 inches.

There is also a fall "run" of fish but I don't know if they make it up as far as fletchers (guessing some do). I think those fish mostly follow bait up the river as they are super fat.

Hello All,

Topic of conversation that came up at the PRSC meeting last week.  Is there still a sustained striper run on the Potomac that follows the shad runs?  Those gathered think there you used to be.  I've seen people catch stripers while fishing for shad this year, but is there an opportunity at Fletcher's after the shad are gone?

On a related note, has anyone fished around Belle Haven?  I haven't been out there since a very, very long time ago and did ok with largemouth.  It seems like it would now be very largemouth, snakehead and maybe carp friendly.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
