FYI, the general consensus outside of this thread seems to be that a full sink is the way to go. I fished a 300 grain full sink on my 8 weight for the shad run last year. It worked great from the boat (which is really the best way to fish for shad) but was a challenge from shore. I found I got hung up/lost a lot of flies as I stripped the fly in closer.
I recently picked up a 200 grain sink tip for my 6 weight that I have been using this fall for stripers. It has been working great and I plan to use it for shad next year as I think it will get down enough as long as the water isn't really moving.
It really comes down to what you will be using it for. If you think you will be fishing from shore alot, I would go with a sink tip.

I got an extra spool for my 8 wt and I'm trying to determine what line would be best to add on it. It will likely be used most in the potomac for all species, maybe some salt, and maybe some lake fishing for small and largemouth. At this time, I don't have a third spool so I'm trying to determine what would be the most useful out of the 3 listed. Currently I just have a floating line.Suggestions and explanation please. Also, I have never fished the striper and shad runs in the spring here in DC, which I plan to do next year. Thanks
