{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Schooling stripers off Gravely Point this morning

Long time lurker here...first time poster.

I decided to take advantage of the excellent weather this morning and took the yak out to the duck pond and later 4MR.
Fishing was pretty slow in the shallow water so I decided to head into the main river and immediately noticed alot of surface action.
Just to the west of the inlet entrance was a school of at least a dozen good size 16-18" stripers....they were rolling almost like tarpon but I couldn't determine what they were feeding on (or doing with that behavior).   I threw a few different shad darts, spinners and a life-like imitation shad but had no luck for over 30 minutes.

Any suggestions or thoughts on how to land these fish?  it was maddening to have them all around the boat but get no action...it was a bit too windy to throw a fly but wish I would have tried.

2nd part of the day I went down to 4MR and put in the boat at the cul-de-sac end of Commonwealth Drive next to the school.  Under the Rt 1 bridge was a massive catfish hiding behind the pylon but he wasn't interested in my cut herring...I also noticed a brilliant orange goldfish (umm  what?)

There were two large fish jumping fully out of the water in the deeper water right next to the airport parking lot...I assumed they were carp but never got a great view.

Thanks!
Nate
