{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Dyke Marsh?

I've fished there with spinning tackle from a canoe several years ago (before I started fly fishing) and did okay -- I got the usual suspects, bluegill and bass.  From the banks of dyke marsh I caught a monster carp on an oatmeal bait a few years ago too....so there are definitely fish in there.  I would imagine it's far too swampy to wade, but haven't tried.  Wife and I like the Prothonotary warblers there too -- ;)  

I assume FMR=4MR=four mile run?  I love fishing in there -- get some monster bluegills nearly every time I go and the occasional random, weird fish as well (tilapia).  "Beauty" is very subjective, but don't kid yourself into thinking that the more pretty-looking streams around here are somehow "less polluted".  Granted they might be less littered, but that's about it.  Nearly anywhere you fish within 15 miles of DC will probably violate the WQ standards for fecal load, and *most* will also violate conductivity, turbidity, chlorophyl a, ORP, etc.  That's not to mention the almost entirely unsampled EDCs (hormones).  

So it may be crude, but you're pretty much always standing in shi** if you're fishing around here.  It doesn't bother me too much.   Dig in my man!  The fish don't care ;)
