If the young man is able to cope with having a present not be under the tree on Dec. 25, consider taking him to one of our local fly shops and letting him try the various mechanisms.  Sometimes smaller hands appreciate the turning-screw+lever action.

Subject: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Vise recommendations

I'd like to get my 10 yo son a vise for the holidays. There seem to be two types of controls for the clamping end: the lever kind like the regal vises used at the beer ties and tunrstyle like on a renzetti.I'd welcome some insight on what people think is better and recommendations (Orvis or otherwise) for a good beginner vise. Thanks!
