Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Air Brush system

I don't have any insight into this particular model or using them for poppers, but I used to use airbrush systems to paint scale model cars. I don't know what types of paint you would use for poppers. I'd imagine it would be an enamel very similar to the common type of paint you use for model cars, boats, planes, etc. I'm not sure how durable that would be for a fishing application, but the color selection would be great. I don't know how this would work on feathers - It seems it would chip off extremely easy.

A few things to consider:
- Dual action lets you get better results, particularly if you're doing multiple colors on one bug, but is harder to use than single action
- Top/gravity fed airbrushes tend to be easier to use and better formetallics (metallic particles settle to the bottom) compared to siphon fed, but siphon fed makes it much easier to quickly change colors
- Air compressor versus canned air: canned air is easy and cheaper, but extremely difficult to use. The pressure changes significantly (meaning inconsistent flow) as the can empties, but also as you use it. The can heats during use, so you'll need to cool it in cold water while you're using it. Air compressors are better, but more expensive.
- Check out the aerosol spray cans made by Testors and Tamiya - you'll be slightly more limited to color choice, but it is still extensive. They may be better suited solely for the simplicity factor. It'll be very tough to do any two-color applications with these, however.

I got one in September. Played with it initially a bit and was really pleased with the results. As I read, some of the markers worked really well and others didn't work at all. A light pull on he tip of the marker, though, and I was able to get all the markers to work really well. I haven't used it much, but plan on using it a lot over the winter to stock up on poppers. I think with some practice, the system can produce very nice results. These are the markers that I've used with it:

I hope that helps!

Thinking about a buying a Copic air brush system for myself as a Christmas gift. Besides painting bass poppers I find that I am needing different color feathers, deer hair, rabbit, etc. I am thinking this air brush system could solve the color choices on a variety of different materials. I"ve been watching the U Tube videos on it and it looks interesting. Anyone out therehave any experience with it. Thanks
