A bit of a different approach, but I use two GoPros to record my exploits.  I keep a Hero2 in video mode and an older 960 in continuous picture mode.  Even at 960p resolution the older model takes decent enough pictures for me.   The Hero2 also has a crisp enough resolution to take some pretty good stills from the video.  Extremely durable, wearable/mountable, completely waterproof.  Definitely not for every application, but I found I was able to get the fish back in the water much faster with the small cams strapped to my chest or mounted on my kayak.  Here's a few recent photos, all with the lower resolution cam.
