I can't believe the author argued that flatheads haven't caused any problems. They've decimated panfish populations in the Susquehanna, particularly rock bass. And they basically took over the lower Schuylkill River which at one time was another great smallmouth fishery. Jury is still out on snakeheads, but comparing them to flatheads certainly doesn't make me feel any better about them.
