[homefamilyarticles] ISAIAH 43:16-21

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Isaiah 43:16
King James Version
16 Thus saith the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters;

Isaiah 43:16-21
The Message
16-21 This is what God says,
the God who builds a road right through the ocean,
who carves a path through pounding waves,
The God who summons horses and chariots and armies—
    they lie down and then can't get up;
they're snuffed out like so many candles:
"Forget about what's happened;
don't keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I'm about to do something brand-new.
It's bursting out! Don't you see it?
There it is! I'm making a road through the desert,
    rivers in the badlands.
Wild animals will say 'Thank you!'
    —the coyotes and the buzzards—
Because I provided water in the desert,
    rivers through the sun-baked earth,
Drinking water for the people I chose,
the people I made especially for myself,
a people custom-made to praise me.

Isaiah 43:16
Names of God Bible
Despite the People of Israel's Past Sin, the Lord Will Forgive Them
16 Yahweh makes a path through the sea
and a road through the strong currents.

Isaiah 43:16

God Will Save His People Again
16 This is what the Lord says.
He is the one who made a road through the sea
and a path through rough waters.

Isaiah 43:16

16 This is what the Lord says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,

Isaiah 43:18-19
King James Version
18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Skinny, clear water makes it tough to be stealthy.

I do most of my saltwater fishing in Southwest Florida, I see some reds occasionally but it's almost always singles and I spook most of them before I get a cast off. Hopefully 2021 is the year I start to figure out a few more tricks on the reds.

Better for me as my presentation was not great, it was good enough.  Once the guide pointed out the difference between the wakes of baitfish vs reds, it became easy to see where they were.  I probably whiffed on 4+ fish with trout hook sets.

Can you share the tides and flies fished? Were all of the fish sight cast?

I've fished a bit south of there (Isle of Hope, GA) on a flood tide with plenty of shots and plenty of bites, but fewer fish to hand than you. I'll blame it on excessive number of Wet Willie's slushies that I drank on the street the day before.

All in all a beautiful day on the water.  If you are ever in Hilton Head, highly recommend heading north a little ways.  Nick said that there are great inshore species all year.  Tarpon in the summer and resident reds always.

[homefamilyarticles] LUKE 2:25-32

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Luke 2:28-32
King James Version
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Luke 2:28-32
The Message
25-32 In Jerusalem at the time, there was a man, Simeon by name, a good man, a man who lived in the prayerful expectancy of help for Israel. And the Holy Spirit was on him. The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple. As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God:

God, you can now release your servant;
release me in peace as you promised.
With my own eyes I've seen your salvation;
it's now out in the open for everyone to see:
A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel.

Luke 2:28-32
Names of God Bible
28 Then Simeon took the child in his arms and praised God by saying,

29 "Now, Lord, you are allowing your servant to leave in peace
    as you promised.
30 My eyes have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared for all people to see.
32 He is a light that will reveal salvation to the nations
and bring glory to your people Israel."

Luke 2:28-32
New Century Version
28 Simeon took the baby in his arms and thanked God:

29 "Now, Lord, you can let me, your servant,
die in peace as you said.
30 With my own eyes I have seen your salvation,
31 which you prepared before all people.
32 It is a light for the non-Jewish people to see
and an honor for your people, the Israelites."

Luke 2:28-32
New International Version
28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

29 "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss[a] your servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31     which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel."

[homefamilyarticles] ISAIAH 9:2-7

Greetings dearly beloved friend.

Isaiah 9:6
King James Version
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6-7
The Message
2-7 The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light.
For those who lived in a land of deep shadows—
    light! sunbursts of light!
You repopulated the nation,
    you expanded its joy.
Oh, they're so glad in your presence!
    Festival joy!
The joy of a great celebration,
sharing rich gifts and warm greetings.
The abuse of oppressors and cruelty of tyrants—
all their whips and cudgels and curses—
Is gone, done away with, a deliverance
as surprising and sudden as Gideon's old victory over Midian.
The boots of all those invading troops,
along with their shirts soaked with innocent blood,
Will be piled in a heap and burned,
a fire that will burn for days!
For a child has been born—for us!
the gift of a son—for us!
He'll take over
    the running of the world.
His names will be: Amazing Counselor,
    Strong God,
Eternal Father,
    Prince of Wholeness.
His ruling authority will grow,
and there'll be no limits to the wholeness he brings.
He'll rule from the historic David throne
    over that promised kingdom.
He'll put that kingdom on a firm footing
    and keep it going
With fair dealing and right living,
    beginning now and lasting always.
The zeal of God-of-the-Angel-Armies
    will do all this.

Isaiah 9:6
Names of God Bible
6 A child will be born for us.
A son will be given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
    He will be named:
        Wonderful Counselor,
        Mighty God,
        Everlasting Father,
        Sar Shalom.

Isaiah 9:6
New Century Version
6 A child has been born to us;
God has given a son to us.
He will be responsible for leading the people.
His name will be Wonderful Counselor, Powerful God,
Father Who Lives Forever, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6
New International Version
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called

[homefamilyarticles] LUKE 2:15-20

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Luke 2:16-20
King James Version
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Luke 2:16-20
The Message
15-18 As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the sheepherders talked it over. "Let's get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us." They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the sheepherders were impressed.

19-20 Mary kept all these things to herself, holding them dear, deep within herself. The sheepherders returned and let loose, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen. It turned out exactly the way they'd been told!

Luke 2:16-20
Names of God Bible
16 They went quickly and found Mary and Joseph with the baby, who was lying in a manger. 17 When they saw the child, they repeated what they had been told about him. 18 Everyone who heard the shepherds' story was amazed.

19 Mary treasured all these things in her heart and always thought about them.

20 As the shepherds returned to their flock, they glorified and praised God for everything they had seen and heard. Everything happened the way the angel had told them.

Luke 2:16-20
New Century Version
16 So the shepherds went quickly and found Mary and Joseph and the baby, who was lying in a feeding trough. 17 When they had seen him, they told what the angels had said about this child. 18 Everyone was amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured these things and continued to think about them. 20 Then the shepherds went back to their sheep, praising God and thanking him for everything they had seen and heard. It had been just as the angel had told them.

Luke 2:16-20
New International Version
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: pickerel

Hi Bill:

I'm no expert, but two things I've read about and observed seem to be true regarding conditions:
1. They like a moving tide.  Slack tides seem to shut off the bite.
2. They don't like wind that ripples the surface.  That seemed to shut them off as well.  In coves where we had caught fish, if the wind was moving the water they wouldn't bite.  So we'd move to coves out of the wind and we'd catch fish there.

Tight lines and let us know how you do if you get out again,
Jamie

That's a good looking fish. Congrats! Have you found that tides , times of day or other conditions make a difference? I've caught fish on incoming tides late in the afternoon. I'm looking forward to a few more trips this winter.

I've had a lot of fun chasing them this fall in one of the tributaries of the Bay.  We've found them in shallow water over weed beds and around downed wood.  Most effective tactic for me has been using a 7wt rod with an intermediate line and a Murdich minnow.  With this set up I can get the fly below the surface, but keep it above the weeds.  For tippet I like the Rio Wire Bite - 20lbs.  A bit heavy for these fish, but the fly still moves well and I don't have to check my tippet.

Here's a 23" pickerel I caught Nov 29.  He had what looked like old scars on his side, like something tried to grab or bite him when he was younger.

Thanks for that tip.  That's what I will do next time .   I'm definitely sold as good cold weather fishing!  Do you, or anyone else, know if they can be caught in tidal potomac creeks?

Well done Bill.  I'm a pickerel fan in the cold weather months.  I generally use a 20-lb saltwater mono bite tippet to prevent biteoffs.  (Then check after every fish.)

Bravo.

I have read here in this forum and a couple other online articles about pickerel in the tidal creeks of the bay.  So after getting skunked on Stripers at Thomas Point Saturday I put kayak in at  Jonas Green Park on Severn and went up to closest creek.    And it worked!  Got a hand full of 15 - 18 inchers by blow downs on the bank.  Caught them on a clouser on 7 wt in the last hour of light.  I did confirm that they can bite through 2x tippet.

I also learned that Thomas Point does not require permit after Nov 1.  A week ago the spin fishing buy next to me got a 25" at the end of the outgoing tide.  Definitely will try the Point next year.

[homefamilyarticles] LUKE 1:67-79

Greetings our dearly beloved friend.

Luke 1:76-78
King James Version
76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

Luke 1:76-78
New International Version
76 And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,
78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven

Luke 1:76-79
The Message
67-79 Then Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied,

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he came and set his people free.
He set the power of salvation in the center of our lives,
and in the very house of David his servant,
Just as he promised long ago
through the preaching of his holy prophets:
Deliverance from our enemies
    and every hateful hand;
Mercy to our fathers,
as he remembers to do what he said he'd do,
What he swore to our father Abraham—
a clean rescue from the enemy camp,
So we can worship him without a care in the world,
made holy before him as long as we live.
And you, my child, "Prophet of the Highest,"
will go ahead of the Master to prepare his ways,
Present the offer of salvation to his people,
    the forgiveness of their sins.
Through the heartfelt mercies of our God,
God's Sunrise will break in upon us,
Shining on those in the darkness,
those sitting in the shadow of death,
Then showing us the way, one foot at a time,
    down the path of peace.

Luke 1:76-78
Names of God Bible
76 "You, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High.
You will go ahead of the Lord to prepare his way.
77 You will make his people know that they can be saved
through the forgiveness of their sins.
78 A new day will dawn on us from above
because our God is loving and merciful.

Luke 1:76-78
New Century Version
76 "Now you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High God.
You will go before the Lord to prepare his way.
77 You will make his people know that they will be saved
    by having their sins forgiven.
78 With the loving mercy of our God,
a new day from heaven will dawn upon us.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: pickerel

They can definitely be caught in Piscataway Creek. That dumps into the Potomac at Ft Washington.
