Paul,
You have several options. First cut the line clean with a nipper at the break. Then do one of the following:
- Fold the line over onto itself and make a small loop. Put 2 or 3 6-turn nail knots with 12lb mono. You can coat the knots with a flexible glue or Loon's UV Knot Sense
- Tie stiff section of 40lb. mono to the end using either a nail knot or an albright. If the core of the flyline is mono, use an albright. If it's a braided core, you can use a nail knot (I use an albright on all my lines but if you don't tie it correctly, it slips). Make your butt section about a foot, and put a perfection loop in the end.
- Use (or make) a braided loop with 30-50lb braided core and slip the end of the line up into the braid and finish properly.
- Come into a local shop and we'll do it for you.

Subject: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Damaged Fly Line
I got snagged on a rock at Gravelly Point last night and in the process of freeing (breaking off) my line the end of my fly line was damaged (see photo). Question: what can/should I do about this? Does this compromise the strength of the line? Is there some kind of glue/sealant I could use to coat this area? Should I just cut it off and tie the leader to the fly line? Thanks in advance for the advice.
