Like Richard mentioned, the giveaway is the vertical bars. The pompano family is often difficult to discern between species, and many different species have the same common name. Yours appears to be the Trachinotus goodei which is common to the Caribbean. Trachinotus rhodopus, another species commonly called the gafftopsail pompano (and looks the same), is only found on the Pacfic side of the house.
Either way, sounds like you're having a blast, and I'm sure the permit will come soon.

As far as gafttopsail pompano, gonna have to trust my guide who says it is a baby permit.Several more bones today, another permit and hooked 3 tarpon. So close to a grand slam it hurts.-----You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders" group. To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an email to tidal-potomac-fly-rodders+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com.To post to this group, send email to tidal-potomac-fly-rodders@googlegroups.com.To view this discussion on the web visit https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/tidal-potomac-fly-rodders/85cb69e1-74cd-4b8f-808d-d4aee3a2ca64%40googlegroups.com.For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/groups/opt_out.To view this discussion on the web visit https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/tidal-potomac-fly-rodders/CEAFF912.29A5F%25richard%40urbanangler.com.--
