{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Mr Clean Magic Eraser

i clean my cork with rubbing alcohol (for looks, but obviously it's antimicrobial if you're concerned about that).  you might also try mineral spirits, which is what carpenters use to clean raw wood, but that is more of a solvent so it could conceivably degrade some glues (but not likely given how fast it evaporates).  Murf is right, magic erasers are basically 1000 grit sandpaper.

I figured I'd ask to see if anyone has had cork start to deteriorate because of cleaning.  I figure after enough fish slime, dirty/sweaty hands and baking in the sun, the organic load would become a feast to bacteria/microbes.  I've been using these Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges to clean my corp grips when I take a rod down for cleaning (about once a month after moderate-heavy use) for a while now.

Does anyone else do this - and more to the point, does anyone know if this is bad for the cork?

I wouldn't think so because I've used these on painted drywall to clean up stains and they don't damage the wall.  I also use these to clean my SUP and there has been no visible change in surface skin condition.
