Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Widewater

Lower down on the canal isn't much different. I went out between locks 6 and 8 and visibility was about 6 inches. Water level didn't seem too different than usual. I did find quite a bit of surface activity, though. The carp were slurping some sort of seed/leaf that blew off a tree. I don't know my trees well, but it was a small, flat, oval-ish leaf with a seed bulb in the middle. I tried a few dry flies sort of knowing nothing would work, but hoped maybe one would suck one down by accident. No luck. Above lock 8 actually had some water in it (last weekend it was bone dry), but still extremely low.

Early yesterday morning I took a stroll at Widewater from Anglers Inn up to the Great Falls overlook.  Lots of water coming over the Falls. Fishing along the towpath yielded 3 beautifully colored sunfish, mostly by high sticking in the locks. Otherwise water was on the high side, very discolored and not much surface activity. Lots of turtles around, including 2 very large snappers one on shore the other swimming up the canal. Almost drove away with my rod on top of the car.
