{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} New To the area

Hey there everybody,

I just moved to DC from NY where I (was) an avid surfcaster. Before that I used to speargun. Looks like I have I have to change my fishing style again if I want to survive this far from saltwater and waves, so here I am!

I am in the market for a flyrod, but have no clue whatsoever. Google-wisdom is pointing me towards a 8' 5wt  (or possibly 6?) rod. Have my eyes on the Cabelas three forks prestige combo for 79 bucks (4 pcs) which should not break the bank or cause marital complaints. Any recommendation is highly appreciated. The plan is to fish locally for bass and other local species, may be some trip later in the fall to some Virginia river for trout.

Unfortunately, I wont' be able to go out fishing for at least 6 weeks (shoulder surgery, luckily left side) and have a lot of time being in-between jobs (read unemployed.)

I was looking forward to being unemployed in a fishable area, so this recovery is going to s@ck.

Will bug the group for fishing spots once I have the rod and am back in decent shape.

Thanks
