Art,

Give a good friend and great guide Capt. Dino Torino a call.  He guides the West Palm area, and spends time in Montauk and Pulaski chasing steel in the winter.

Dino has put a bunch of our clients on big fish.  Dock light snook, dorado, jacks, offshore false albacore and king mackerel, and the occasional shark.

It's a little late in the season but he also does snook from the beach with a stripping basket

Don't be afraid to name drop.  I've known him for a long time and he's a great guy.  He's got a 27' offshore boat with twin 250 Mercs and an 18' Actioncraft skiff for skinny water.

Art,

I would give Captain Scott Crippen a call. He is based out of Fort Pierce which is an hour north of West Palm and he is equipped to do off-shore, near-shore, and in-shore. My brother and I have him booked for 3 days in mid July. I always get good reports from people I send his way. If you are going to do some DIY I would walk the beaches looking for the Snook that will be on the prowl.

Planning a trip to Florida in West Palm Beach - Fort Lauderdale area and looking for advice for fishing.
I will be there in late July-early August time frame.

Would appreciate any advice of where to fish that time of year and suggestion for guides.  Anything within 2 hours would work.  Yergens of CNY is on West coast that time.

Thanks

I spent a few days in Fort Pierce, FL last week visiting my parents and getting some fishing in. I was actually continuing my chase for a big Snook. I had plenty of opportunities but could not bring the coveted Snookzilla to hand. The first three fish I hooked were slot size and would have satisfied my needs. The first fish wrapped me on a dock post, the second straightened out the hook, and the third rubbed through 40lbs fluorocarbon…god I love these fish.
I made it out with Captain Christian Yergens of CNY on the Fly, based out of Vero Beach. He got me on fish and put me in front of a Snook that was easily 45", and I promptly blew the cast and watched the fish of a life time explode in fear. That fish will haunt me for a long, long time.
The trip was certainly not a loss. I got a very nice mixed bag of gorgeous Indian River Lagoon fish (Snook, Reds, Trout, Bluefish, Grouper, Jacks, etc) and got to put some deep bends in my 8, 9, and 10 weights.  And although I did miss a stud Snook on the last day, I added a new species on the fly…a puffer…
