Carl, Thanks for the advice. I will check the forum out. The tip section is full length and has a slight bend. The rod is heavy, particularly when matched up with a light reel.

Both reel and rod would probably be known there, or at least a good guess. The reel is interesting. I like the rod. Is the tip section full length? It looks neat. Orvis has use Impregnated blanks for at least 50 years, so they hold up really well (and are a bit heavier). Let us know what you find out.

The rod says "Orvis" but looks like it's hand lettered along with "Ruby Eye." I read somewhere online (so it must be true) that Orvis made bamboo kits way back and people would also name the rod. I'm skeptical that this is the case with this rod. It's 8', probably a six weight, and very slow, which is not a surprise. It's missing a few guides.--What I'm more curious about is the reel made by G.W. Gayle and Son of Frankfort, KY. It looks like a Simplicity#3 but without the model stamped on it. 1920's vintage I think. The only markings are the Mfr and location.Anybody have any thoughts on these two items other than, "It would cool hanging on the wall." ?Bryan
