Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: C & O Carp

Scott, I've never fished the Georgetown section, but I've heard it is very fishable - particularly around a few of the mulberry trees once that hatch starts (anyone know roughly when mulberry trees start dropping their fruit?). I'd love to hear other people's experiences in that area. What I do know about the other sections (I focus on mainly between lock 7 and 8 with some action between 6 and 7) is the depth (and water clarity) seems to vary fairly significantly. I don't know if there are any sections in Georgetown there that are deep enough to hold the carp, but shallow enough allow them to tail with their tail out of the water, but you will find a few of those areas for sure in the other sections.

I am looking to hit the canal soon. Never fished it before. Is fishing near the Key Bridge worth it, in Georgetown? How deep is the canal there, is it shallow enough for carp to tail? Great pics, too! Glad to see fishing is beginning to pick up for folks. I look forward to being more active here.

Nice, good for you, Will. I fished for carp down there a few times last summer and just couldn't "get" the take and hook-up. I'll keep trying.

"McTage's foam trouser worm" - good thing this is a flyfishing site, elsewhere in polite society such a phrase might draw looks of opprobrium. ;-)
