I had a chance to fish with Art Noglak from tysons this past Friday on Beaver creek (Maryland). It was a real treat so I thought I'd write a little something up. Mostly because it was this season's first oppurtubity to successfully throw dries.
Fish were feeding consistently on the surface for most of the day and Art and I were able to trick a few into taking a caddis size 16. Art was also able to fool one into taking a purple Adams, which was pretty cool.
Once the caddis hatch faded we were left scratching our heads as to what the trout were feeding on. There was a strong midge hatch that was consistent all day, but was incredibly tiny. We did notice that the trout changed feeding behavior. Art guessed the trout were now feeding on emergers. I was able to take one with a very small bwo emerger.
The surface action eventually faded leaving us to nymphing. We had a great deal of luck high sticking the obvious runs. Art worked a bigger midge pattern and I threw a hares ear. Like hank Patterson says pick anything it's all the same crap. (Of course I don't really believe that)
Big thanks to Artemus Maximus for joining me. The river was alive and the whiskey was flowing. Great times indeed.
