{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Good Fly for Chain Pickerel

Hey Danny! glad to see you've made the move to the good side and away from the dark side by picking up a fly rod! I fish the Severn and South rivers for pickerel on the fly this time of year about 1-2 times a week. This year I've had a lot of luck on a few flies. Like Jeff said, flashy spoons are awesome for pickerel, spoon flies work well. Also check out some chartreuse clouser minnows on 1/0 hooks and basically any minnow pattern that is green, yellow, chartreuse, brown, or black. Make sure they have some flash. To read a little more about my experiences, you can check out my blog, we've had some recent posts on how we've done on pickerel and you can also email me, through the "Connect" tab on the blog for info about flies.

I am new to fly fishing.  This time of year I usually head over to the south and Severn Rivers with some spinners for Pickerel action.  Now fly fishing is the only thing on my mind.  What type of flies will pickerel take?

Thanks
