Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Club Casting Clinic Sunday, March 3 and other upcoming events

I work for a conservation group in DC (TRCP), and am planning to head out with one of our staff members from Oregon who will be in town. Besides conservation, Mia Sheppard is a steelhead guide, and TH casting enthusiast. Look forward to Sunday!

"Angling" refers to the use of an "angle" (hook) with the intent to "take" fish.  Since you are not casting with a hook on the end of your line, the criterion of "angling" is not met because they're is no real way to "take" anything.  I asked this very question to the Delaware people because I was thinking about casting in the Cape Henlopen park area for practice when I was down there.

If someone stops you from casting a fly rod on the lawn with a piece of yarn on the end of your line and asks for a fishing license, he/she is an idiot.  For good measure, I wouldn't put myself in the position of casting in the actual water without a proper license.  Of course buying the license and being done with it is an easy way to go.

As far as I know, no license is required to cast in the grass, but it may not be a bad idea to drop $13 on a DC license anyway. Fletcher's sells them but I don't know what the boat house hours are this time of year, and they're also available online here: https://enode.dc.gov/epermit/Page/Entry/Login.aspx
