A neighbor told me that Trout Unlimited stocked Holmes Run today (2/19/13). We ran down there this evening to check it out. My buddy forgot his reel and ran home while I fished (it was nice of him to, basically, give me a ride). I did not see any activity in the first few pools. Frankly, I was not sure the intel was correct. The light was fading fast, so I just stripped the bugger in the first few pools and practiced casting. Then, "Holmes the Trout" tried to run away with the bugger. Thanks to Dan at Orvis for teaching me how to tie a Woolly Bugger this weekend (I added some pink fiber that I had at home to the tail (pink for the "booby" foundation). I was glad that Dan still had his tying table set-up after his class when I showed-up. I enjoyed catching a fish on a new fly made-up with garbage left over from the first fly I ever tied (a pink scud). Dan - You should leave the tying table-up all the time (perhaps in a corner). If only I had the foresight to bring a beer or a flask, we could have started our own beer tie (corporate liability waiver also pending).
Thanks again for all those that share timely and complete info. on this list. I really enjoy the stories, information, and try to share each time I have information.
Go get Holmes the Trout! Urban trout fishing with a stench (I live on the Pike, so I can disparage it).... No voodoo stuff or other odd stuff located on this recon.
