RE: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Snowshoe WV

Scott,

I just got back from Snowshoe.  Couple of things to keep in mind – it’s a holiday weekend.  There will be a TON of people there.  I suggest going to Silver Creek up there – the slopes have a LOT less people, but there are more terrain parks than green/blue/black diamond slopes.  It’s a tradeoff, but it was so crowded this past weekend on the main slopes near the village.  I also broke/bruised a rib.

Also – the first lodge you see up there is the Soaring Eagle Lodge.  If you need rentals, go into Elk River Snowboard and Ski and RENT A HELMET.  Just lost a friend 2 days ago who was in Breckenridge and didn’t wear one and found himself in the trees.

Ask for Gil (he’s from Old Town originally) and offers a 10% discount.  Tell him I sent you there.  He also runs the Elk River Inn & Restaurant in Slatyfork.

Back to the fishing – If you take 66 you’ll drive directly over the Greenbrier while you’re there.  Small zebra midges and pheasant tails (16-20) will catch you a few fish there, but I’m anticipating you’ll be on the slopes the entire time.

Like Gene mentions, there’s also the Elk.

I hit the Elk River with Beth last October and had a blast out there.  Very tiny flies and "match the hatch" stuff.  Drop by the fly shop and talk to Dave, the local guru there.  You can probably get some flies and pointers.

I'm heading up to snowshoe this weekend and was wondering if anyone had been fishing up there and if there are any good spot close to the resort?
