Hi Sam - welcome! Beth and I will be there tomorrow evening as well. We've spent quite a few hours at 4MR this winter....when it's cold and the daylight is slim, we don't generally get too ambitious about traveling long distances to fish (*cough - Beth hates the cold), and we like it there. Rob and some other members also spend a lot of time there, and from what I read (and what we've caught) there are quite a few species you can catch in there at various times. We've caught both species of bass (Beth got a nice smallie in September), yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed, catfish, and that goofy tilapia. Still, none hold a candle to that monster snakehead of yours. Sweet, merciful crap that fish is huge! Neither of us have caught a carp or goldfish either....We still need to hit the shad run, and there are plenty of warm water rivers we want to canoe the bejeesus out of this Spring/Summer. We love float fishing -- getting sunburned on the tops of your feet is a rush!Talk to you! -- Appreciate your feedback too. Oh! Thanks again for the clouser minnow. ..Can't believe I forgot my fly box out there. Well, actually that's pretty much "par" for me. The only ones I could find scattered loosely in my vest were 2 size #18 PT nymphs and an expired booklet of McDonalds coupons.I also got "hot" and took off my skull cap for a while, but I forgot that I was bald and my head is slightly pink now.I blame poor genetic material mostly. Or heavy metals in the municipal water supply.Gene--

I would like to thank Dan Davala especially for creating such an awesome community to share the love of fishing in this area. I am an all around fisherman usualy doing mostly spin fishing but this forumn has encouraged me to dust off my fly rod and start to improve my fly casting skills. I have started meeting TPFR members like Gene (turbine blade) and Dan at four mile run and everyone is awesome. I am looking forward to meeting more of you at the beer tie.
So in this post i just wanted to make an attempt to give back a little by sharing my personal experience in fishing four mile run in the winter the last few years. I have seen a lot of posts with people asking how four mile has been with lots of mixed reports and I just wanted people to know that with the right timing tide wise it has been good all winter regardless of weather. I have fished it all winter 2-3 times a week and have even caught fish on the coldest days (19 degrees +)
In my experience the winter fishing is always best on an outgoing tide when the warm water from the discharge is brought downstream past the bridges. The bigger bass seem to hang out mostly on the deeper side of the stream where the Toyota dealership is. I have been hitting them on clouser minnows mostly with the occasional pickup on big wolly buggers. The crappie have been schooling alot under the deep side of the route one bridge and i have been getting them on clousers and wolly buggers as well. They seem to prefer white right now.
