I fished the Cascades George at the Homestead Monday morning. I don't normally fish much in the winter, but Monday was beautiful and my wife let me slip away for a couple of hours of fishing. After Monday I'm looking for more winter fishing opportunities. I fished with Matt Thompson from the Homestead Orvis shop. He was great. We caught over a dozen fish in the first hour. 3 were over 16 inches! We used San Jaun worms, or wolly buggers with a Caddis pupa dropper. Some caddis were popping off and a few fish were rising to them, but no luck on the drys for me.
The fish in the pic went about 18 inches!

In the same boat, guys. Thinking of heading to SNP and snooping some streams, pending weather developments.

I'm willing to travel almost anywhere in the state. My college buddy, who works down at the Homestead, said fishing on the Jackson (my home turf) has been pretty bad for the last couple weeks, so now I'm looking at other options. Also, got skunked last night at the Tidal Basin - not a single hit. Fished a variety of olive, chartreuse, and red clousers and bead head buggers from the bridge up on the side opposite the Jefferson memorial.
