Job Description
The successful candidate will demonstrate 5-7 years experience in the design, development, testing, implementation and migration of COGNOS cubes and reports in Cognos 8.4 and later versions. Must have recent practical experience with Data modeling and Dimensional modeling, with a working knowledge of the star schema. Must be proficient in the use of Framework Manager/ReportNet, Report Studio, Event Studio, Oracle, SQL, DirectConnect, and demonstrated success managing DEV, TEST and PROD environments and effectively controlling migration across environments.

Skills Needed
• A: Ability to troubleshoot query issues during report development using a methodical approach, including comparing the tabular data from Cognos queries with SQL queries on the database based on the reports specification.
• A = Translate business requirements into a data model and be able to convert results into a Framework Manager Model to deliver reporting
• A = Create enterprise-wide Relational and Multidimensional data models
• A = Develop and execute unit test plans to successfully deliver a project
• A = Develop and maintain supporting documentation
• A = Scripting of SQL for investigating, researching and verifying results of queries and reports
• A = Utilize UNIX commands to support basic functionality with files and to support the Cognos configuration and environment
• A = Oracle database architecture and terminology
• B = Administer the Cognos suite of products
• A = Support users in problem resolution including troubleshooting of operational, data and performance issues
• A = Provide analytical and decision support for the implantation and on-going enhancement of existing reports and cubes
• A = Work well independently or as a team member
Knowledge and Experience Needed
• A = 5-7 years experience with the Cognos 8.4 and later/Framework Manager/ReportNet suite of tools on UNIX as both metadata Modeler and Report Developer
• A=Working with business users to design and develop correct and well-performing Cognos reports and cubes using Report Studio with data drill-down and slice & dice options
• B: Solid knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including advance use of Pivot Tables, Look-ups, If Statements, Macros etc) and SQL programming language a plus
• A= Experience developing and scheduling complex reports using Event Studio and applying filters, prompts and calculations
• A = Ability to consume Relational and Multidimensional models and translate this into the development of the metadata layer in Framework Manager in conjunction with the logical and physical data models
• A = Extensive understanding of Multidimensional Analysis
• A = 5+ years writing SQL queries to validate reports and research data in the tables
• A = Knowledge of UNIX commands to be able to navigate directories, invoke shell scripts, move and copy files
• A = Experience with Oracle 10g and later
• A=Understand Data Warehousing best practices and associated methodologies
• A = Working knowledge of the different types of data stores that make up a complete Data Warehousing environment (staging, ODS, etc.)
• B = Administration of the Portal, Users, Groups, Security, etc.
• A = Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• A = Understand financial terminology and experienced working with the financial community
Responsibilities
• Working with business users to model, design, develop and implement various forms of informational reporting, including the unit testing and migration of reports across environments
• Support the business, testing and verification needs of both business user and IT users by writing SQL queries
• Support and troubleshoot the Cognos environment
• QA cube and reporting deliverables for correctness and performance
• Educate/mentor end users on the appropriate use of Cognos BI tool(s)
• Develop and maintain end user and technical documentation

• Business users are using the published reports and cubes
• Business users are creating their own ad hoc queries and reports from the data sources provided
• Satisfying requirements and schedules within given resource constraints
• Increased Cognos knowledge among the organization
Education and certifications
• Relevant Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
• Cognos Certification is a plus
