So glad to be here. First Post.
I was born and raised in the MD/DC/VA area and learned to fish (spinning rod) on the C&O canal. I just became an avid Fly Rodder since I moved to CT. I have been primarily fishing for Stripers with some success during the fall migration this year.
Never caught a fish in the Potomac on the fly. However, I came back to visit the family for Thanksgiving and decided to wet a fly on Black Friday after my wife bought me a new Orvis Hydros reel.
Went out to some shallow fast moving water in the Potomac north of Great Falls. Was using crayfish patterns on floating line with a 9 ft leader. Hooked into some nice Smallies in front of big boulders in slower moving deeper water.
Was a blast. See pics below.
Next thing I want to do is target Maryland Stripers from the shore on the fly. See if I can transfer any of my CT Striper knowledge to the Tidal Potomac. Any advice?
