Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Shad Tomorrow; 4.19 maybe 4.20 too

Joel,

Alex may be in the field of fire at the moment.  I'll answer on his behalf and he'll correct me if I'm wrong.  It's the peak of the run. Last Monday they had no boats at 9 AM. Coin toss.  Danny will be there at 6 AM.

Thanks Alex - I'm new to this but am aiming to get on the water by mid-day tomorrow. Should I come early to put my name on the waiting list for the day? Or do you think mid-day might have some flexibility.

thanks,
Joel

*Fletcher's chiming in*

It is not necessary to show up at 4:45, not sure who told you that but it wasn't me.  This weekend I will be opening at 5:30am, both Saturday and Sunday.  It is not unusual to have anglers waiting for me to show up at this time.  Unfortunately we have no control when people start showing up, we just try to open up when they do so everyone can get out on the water.  Last weekend we sold out of boats by 6am both days.  If you show up at 7 you may not get a boat but there should still be plenty of shore spots available, i'd be happy to point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps,
Alex

My head is spinning given all the info that is out there about Shad in the Potomac.  New to it.  Obviously.
Fletcher's is saying don't expect to rent a boat unless you're there before 5am.  Well for me, thats not going to happen.  Do they always say that, or is that the truth?  Should I just show up sometime after 0-dark-30 and wait it out?  Should I go on foot and fish from the rocks or will I need to bring my own rock to stand on? My current plan is my old stand by of just winging it...

If I do happen to get lucky (sometime early, but not 0445), I will most likely be alone and happy to share the vessel, feel free to call.

Also, if anyone owns some kind of a boat and no truck, I have no boat and a Silverado, and plenty of gas, and I'm happy to drive.
