{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Family and Youth Casting Call

I am signed up and ready to go for Friday!! I think this is year #4 for me, I have a blast every time. Hope to see some fellow TPFR folks out as well. Last year may have seemed a bit like the battle of Thermopylae, but at the end of the day it was a glorious feeling.

I will be coffeed up and ready for the youths!

Hi Everyone;

Here's the latest on the 7th annual Family and Youth Casting Call coming up early next month at Fletcher's Cove.

Call for Volunteers

Family & Youth Casting Call

Schools of Shad and Schools learning Fishing!

The Family & Youth Casting Call (FYCC) is looking for volunteers to mentor youngsters in fishing and casting at Fletcher's Cove over two days in early May.

FYCC is a fun fishing event held annually at Fletcher's Cove on the C&O Canal in Washington DC. This year FYCC will take place Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 from 10 am to 3 pm. FYCC coincides with what is usually the height of the shad run in the Potomac River.

On Friday, like schools of shad swimming up the Potomac, buses from local schools will drop off around 200 children at Fletcher's at specified intervals where they will have their first fishing experiences and lesson.  On Saturday, the fishing is open to all children; more than 400 and their immediate families are expected to take part.

On both days, the youngsters will receive casting instruction and assistance from volunteers to help them fish in a designated section of the canal generously stocked for this special event. Both days will also feature conservation activities, exhibits and displays.

We're seeking volunteers to teach kids to bait their hooks, cast their lines, and reel in their catch. Other volunteers are needed to help teach knot tying and rig and repair rods/reels.

Volunteers can help out for half a day, a full day or for both days of the event, and can combine FYCC participation with some serious shad fishing on the river.

Volunteers will receive a free Tee shirt, meals and the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped teach the next generation of anglers!

Please help youngsters learn to fish at FYCC. Register now under the Volunteer tab at www.familyandyouthcastingcall.com. Signing up is important to help us order the right amount of food and Tee shirts.

Many thanks.
