{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Rapidan report

Nice variety of fish!  That unidentified fish is a Bluehead Chub.

Went to the Rapidan on Saturday and hiked up until I started to see pretty pools. I only saw a couple other anglers so it was a nice secluded day to be out. Nymphing proved productive...I caught a couple handfuls of fingerling smallies and something else I wasn't sure about (maybe a sucker?). Also a decent smallie on a streamer.

Most importantly...caught my first ever brook trout on the fly (and then a couple more after). My dad and I started fly fishing last fall and it was a pretty miserable winter to get hooked on fly fishing...but finally I accomplished my goal of catching a trout on my own. Those fish are absolutely gorgeous and magical. Makes me proud to be a Virginian!

Also had a great time shad fishing on Friday at Chain Bridge. Also my first shad ever. All around great weekend! And saw a decapitated catfish...looked at least 40 lbs. See below.
