Happy New Year everyone on the forum, I wish you all the best of health, happiness, and tight lines for 2014!I am a big fan of the Gunpowder River and although yes, many of the trout there are picky and on the smaller end of the spectrum, one must admit they are beautiful. I wanted my first fish of 2014 to be a trout so I made the trip to the Gunpowder today. I fished the heat of the day, a little past 1pm, and dredged two zebra midges across the bottom. Adding split shot did the trick. My indicator dipped down and I set the hook on what I thought was a very large brown, as browns make up 97% of the Gunpowder's population. While fighting the fish from the depths and about to net it I realized something trailing behind that brown. It was a brookie who took the bottom zebra midge!!My first outing this year was a success as I landed my first brook trout and experienced my first double header on the fly. It is the wild beauty of these fish that keeps me coming back to fish the Gunpowder again and again.Tight Lines in 2014!!
