{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Lake Needwood Largie

Ah yea the showers were on and off.  I managed to tie a few charteusse gurglers on some size 4 hooks.
Would you recommend bumping up to a 1/0?

Tonight I plan on tying some more up with two pieces of foam, a marabou tail, and rubber legs.  Maybe more largie appropriate?

Also considering buying some booglebugs.

I've never targeted fish on top water flies yet.  But hope to be able to post a success story soon!

Well ~ 8pm we didn't stay dry after the tie - while I had only 50 yds to go to the car, I was soaked when I got there.  Gene (TurbineBlade) and Beth left right before me, resigned to getting soaked. What was really irksome was that once I was on the GW heading to the Beltway, the rain cleared out by the time I hit the first scenic overlook after Spout Run.

I haven't tried Lake Frank in a while, didn't have luck the couple times I did fish it. My guess would be the dam face is the best place with a fly rod. Try tying larger gurglers on bigger hooks for bass.

I fished from a bank in a corner where the water seemed to get deep almost immediately.  I do intend on fishing there more often as I don't live too far from lake Needwood either.  I would like to rent one of the boats and explore more of the lake itself.

I assume the smaller lake produces as well?  Any bass reports over in lake Bernard frank?

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this beer tie but I'll definitely be at the next one. Do plan on whipping up some gurglers though!

Enjoy the beer tie and hope you guys can stay dry.
