Hi Keith,
My name is Rob Crowe. I grew up an hour from Halifax, in Truro. I did a lot of salmon fishing growing up, but typically end up fishing in Newfoundland now. The salmon fishery in NS has been damaged by acid rain (largely from the US), but I understand that stocks are rebounding to some degree. The end of July may be a bit late, but consider contacting this shop in Halifax: http://www.fishingfever.ca/. They might be able to point you in the right direction. If not salmon, I can tell you that there's lots of trout fishing in lakes around the province -- maybe even some sea trout in some of the rivers at the time you're there. I know nothing about ocean fishing.
Check out the Atlantic Salmon Federation website (http://atlanticsalmonfederation.org/) for information on all the Nova Scotia rivers. If you happen to have time to get out of the Halifax area, it's with noting that the acid rain weather patterns have not affected certain rivers in the northeastern parts of the Province. The Margaree river in particular is stellar -- but fishing the best parts of that river can be limited. It's not unusual to fish all day and not get a salmon, but they are the crown jewel when it comes to fly-fishing in the Maritimes. Your timing may not be the best for all rivers, but maybe you can find something worthwhile with this little bit of info.
Have fun. Halifax is a wonderful city.
Kind regards,
Rob

I am headed to Halifax Nova Scotia for a week at the end of July. Anyone have suggestions on fishing. Anyone used a guide there or gone out for a day on the big Atlantic or little Fundy?
Thanks in advance.
