RE: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} New Reel Recommendation

Eric,

Bring it in.  They honor the warranty on all their reels and usually they repair it and have it back fairly quickly.

It might be able to be repaired - I haven't contacted Ross yet. However, it is a pre-1998 Cimarron, so that may pose a problem. Truth be told, it is too small for my skagit set up, so I have very little backing on it (not that I've missed it...) and, frankly, my mother would probably appreciate having her reel back if I can get it fixed, anyway. So, yes, this is a good excuse to get a new reel.

Can the drag be repaired on your Ross? I'm no expert in fixing reels, but it sounds like it might be cheaper to get yours fixed than buying a $200 reel with two more spools that'll probably run you another $100 each. Or maybe you're simply looking for an excuse to buy a new one!

Anyone have any suggestions on a new reel? The drag on my old Ross gave up the ghost this past weekend and I need something to cover a few rods now seeing as my spools are not compatible with new Ross models. I will be putting it on a single-hand 8 and 9wt, and 6wt switch. Because I'll need two additional spools, I would prefer to keep the reel price around (or, under) $200. I'll be using it in salt water some, but mostly fresh water. Disc drag is non-negotiable, but I'm open to any brand. So far, I've been looking at some of the Redington and Albright reels, but I really only started perusing this morning. Tall order, I know, but someone here probably has some good ideas and advice.
