Ross emailed me back and said they could fix it for the usual $20 service fee as they still had the parts for it. I'll do that. However, I still want to buy a new reel - why not take the opportunity to make mamma happy and give myself a quarter-birthday gift?

I called SciAnglers about a busted delrin gear on my System1 456 reel (about 12 years old) and they said they'd had lots of problems with that one and so they'd sent me a new spool, GRATIS!
