Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Eastern Bay info

Dave,

Bring Clousers, bring Deceivers or anything resembling  topwater poppers.  Bluefish will be around and won’t be able to resist topwater for sure…  also bring stout tippet and/or wire so you don’t keep losing them.  Do you tie flies?  If so, tie on an oversized long shank hook and finish the fly near the back half of the shank so the front part of the shank acts like a bit guard.  Mustad 94011’s in a #1-#1/0 work well.

Check here (click for link) before you go as conditions will change.  Pardon the appearance as it’s still a work in progress, but the reports are done weekly so you’ll get the most updated info from someone fishing the Bay a couple times a week.

I whole heartedly concur with Art's recommendations re:Clousers.

Regarding spinning gear, Shawn Kimbro has everything you ever wanted to learn about light tackle spinning on the Chesapeake at www.chesapeakelighttackle.com

Re: kayak fishing, you'll want to bring a small anchor as moving water is very helpful targeting stripers and blues, but will also make the kayak challenging.

Best of luck and tight lines!

Hey folks-  I will be on a family vacation the first week of August on the Eastern Short near Claiborne. I plan on bringing my 8wt and a spinning combo just to see if I can tangle with any stripers or bluefish from the kayak that comes with the rental house. Does anyone have any suggestions for what kind of flies or baits to pack? I'm thinking my best chance at any success is we happen to be in area where there is some surface feeding early and late in the day.
