Per Dan's suggestion, I hired Mike Adams of Alaskan Angling Adventures out of Cooper Landing, Alaska to take me on a one-day float trip on the Lower Kenai River last week. Luckily, I was his only client for the day, so it was just the two of us. Mike was a great guide and put me onto a lot of fish! Plus the equipment he provided (rods, reels, waders, wading boots) was excellent! We had an amazing day of fishing and I wish I was still out there! We met at Cooper Landing (about 2 hours south of Anchorage) at 6 am. From there, we drove another 35 minutes south to Skilak Lake where we put in. Skilak Lake separates the Upper and Lower sections of the Kenai River and the water in the lake and both sections of the river is almost Carribean blue due to the silt.As soon as we got to the western end of the lake, we began seeing Sockeye salmon surfacing. The bright red color of the fish against the blue water was spectacular! I was lucky enough to get one of the male Sockeyes to take - a new species for me! (pardon the spot of water on the lens!)In addition, we caught several Dolly Varden (another new species for me!):And some rainbows, including my largest ever! All in all it was a fantastic trip and I highly recommend that you get in touch with Mike if you are heading that way!--Scott
