Gage at Point of Rocks the night before said 1.3 - which is quite low. Aiding bi-pedal navigation, as well as slipping, sliding and a couple of partial dunks was excellent water clarity. From personal experience, vibram soles with studs are not as good as felt soles, but I am unwilling to risk a huge fine from Md. DNR. I hear you re: deep wading. You could always wear a PFD, either inflatable or a kayak fishing number. I for one wouldn't blame you.
-- Today, right now on Monday with the overcast skies would be an excellent time to be astream for smallmouth on the Potomac. PofRs gage is between .9 and 1.0 at the moment. SMB are probably smashing all topwater presentations.
I'll give you a heads up the next time I'm heading out there if you like.
