The Monocacy is apparently a pretty good warm water fishery -- but I'm generally passing over it to get to other places ;).  I'm sure it's fun to fish. 

I use the Culpepper-Rap gauge to estimate when the SNP streams are really too low to bother fishing.  I keep a notepad with conditions, etc. in the truck every weekend we go fishing so I can refer back to it and remember things.  I personally wouldn't fish any of them at present, but I won't tell anyone what to do.  One thing about fishing in low water in the summer is you definitely learn a lot about fish holding places, and stream bottom structure ("bones").  Go to Urban Angler and talk to Grizzly about the time he was fishing the Savage and someone pulled the bathtub plug on him ;). 

The easiest way to fish the SNP streams is to just go do it whenever you feel like it and just don't talk about it on here for 5....maybe 6 months of the year.

Was thinking of going to the pocosin or rapidan next week--has anyone been down there lately? Do you think it's worth checking out or will it still be too hot? I've never fished down there in Sep. before.
