Miles,
Two other points I would like to emphasize:
1- Best I have been able to determine there are NO fly fishing shops and no flies available for sale on the Island. The bones don't seem too picky and the cuda will shred any fly you have (or bite it off). Take some knotable wire and/or 40# fluro for bite tippets.
2- And this may be big. When flying down the US will let you put your rods in the overhead. When returning (on the same US carrier) the Brits Will NOT let you carry your rod on. It must be checked. Plan on a checked bag with your rods in it on return. I was unable to talk them into an exception.

MIles,
If you are in the Rum Point vicinity then that probably means the Kiabo area. There are quite a few canals in that area. The best area in that part of the island is the mangrove areas in the bay to the east side of the bay. There is a public area at the end of Water Cay Rd ( Water Cay Beach) where you could launch but straight south and to the east is the only Environmental Zone on the island and they have that posted No Fishing. As a tourist, you don't need a fishing license for rod and reel catch and release while wading from shore - I am not sure about floating around in a 'Yak - you should research that. The license regs in the referenced site say catch and release is ok. I have had a marine resources person stop on the side of the road and watch me release a fish before they rode on.
