Very nice carp Todd! I hooked one in 4MR about 3 years ago that still haunts me, and Beth was there to see the monster just inches from the net when he came unhooked ;). This was of course on our date-night, doughball recipe (we'd usually make the bait on a Friday night to have it 'set' by Sat-Sun morning) and not on fly tackle.--The telescopic rods there remind me of the long spinning rods the English sometimes use for carp, completely with electronic bite alarms and high-capacity 'bait-runner' spinning reels. I actually prefer a 6-7' spinning rod made of e-glass with 8-pound fluoro. I usually just leave the bail open and wait for the line to start paying-out ;).Haven't done it in quite a while -- though carp on the fly rod interests me, I find them much easier to catch with bait and the ability to sink it deep and wait for some time for fish to start wandering around while you're on the bank, keeping a low profile. Wading around with a fly rod and casting a sinking fly when the carp are already there is very, very difficult. I'd opt for the canal where I can see them and not have to get in the water and muck around. We usually don't fish at night, so that option isn't there.Any time someone posts a picture of a fly-caught carp I think:"There's a fisherman who really knows where her towel is!"Gene

To: tidal-potoma...@ googlegroups.comAwesome, Todd! Are you sight fishing them, or blind casting? On Tue, Dec 3, 2013 at 9:40 PM, TAEHWAN KIM <tod...@naver.com> wrote:
I fished Sunday afternoon at 4 MR and this is what came out.
I used a carbon fiber fishing pole (18 feet) with bread ball as bait. The biggest carp was 35.5" and close to 30 lb.
As the weather gets colder, we may see more carp coming in to 4 MR. Do not put your fly rod away for winter yet.
I have caught more carps in the winter month at 4 MR than any other places. toss a #8-6 nymph, and drag
close to the bottom and you will have a chance to hook'em.Tight Lines,Todd
