The Murray's guys have a pretty specific set of flies designed by them for their waters. Definitely bring what you have, however they will have an arsenal of local, specific patterns.
We'll be in Luray that weekend for a wedding and I hope to wet a line in the 'Doat.
Have fun!

It's probably on the late side for poppers. Bass action will have slowed down significantly with the colder weather (particularly out there), but also since flows are extraordinarily low right now. You'll need to be fishing a lot in the deep cuts and pools, so your standard deep flies will work - clousers, crawfish, etc. Murray's will probably sell you Maurauders, and their "magnum" lines - so Magnum Hogsucker (which actually worked awesome during the summer), Magnum Creek Chub, etc. The river will probably also be very clear, so you'll have to be ready for very long casts to some otherwise spooky fish. Keep an eye out for carp while you're out there. With the water this low, you may actually get great some shots at some big, feeding carp.On Thu, Oct 3, 2013 at 1:16 PM, John Hoey <john....@gmail.com> wrote:
Hey guys,--
First time posting. I am heading the Shenandoah next weekend for a float trip with my brother to start off a bachelor party weekend. I am going with a guide from Murray's Fly Shop in Edinburg, VA. We are fishing for small mouth. Just wanted to get some advice on what flies I should get prior to heading down and any other helpful tips. I am sure I will get some advice from Murray's but just wanted to get all the help I can.
Thank you!
John
