{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Volunteers Needed: Maryland Trout in the Classroom (TIC)

Hey, TPFR members and lurkers, this is a call for volunteers to help one or more of the 74 schools in Maryland's TIC.. This year's program will kick off with the annual half-day teacher and volunteer training and orientation workshop on Saturday, November 23, at the Robinson Nature Center in Columbia MD. The works\hop will cover all aspects of the TIC program from setting up a classroom aquarium to releasing fingerlings into local streams. Volunteers are needed to help schools set up their aquariums by mid-December; to deliver fertilized Kamloops rainbow trout embryos to schools on Friday, January 10; to help new TIC teachers work through trout-related emergencies; to talk to students about trout-related topics, and to take part in spring programs when students release their trout into local streams, do stream samples, and usually get a chance to try some basic fly-tying and casting.

It's a great way to contribute to a program designed to counter nature deficit disorder and promote a conservation ethic among the next generation of anglers to ensure that our cold-water resources remain clean and accessible.

Even if you can spare only a few hours here and there, your help would be welcome.

If you're at all interested in helping Maryland TIC, please get in touch with Chuck or me.  Look forward to hearing from you.
