{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Yellow breeches, PA - day trip, went okay....pretty creek and town

Hey - we fished YB all day Saturday and did okay!  There were anglers quite densely packed into the "slots" leading to the creek all along the C/R section, but we found spots and fish.

We both caught several fall fish right away on griffiths gnats, and Beth had this fish rising like crazy in front of her...only to finally set the hook on it and find out it was a bluegill ;).  That was so much fun to watch -- I'll never forget it.  Also, it was REALLY quiet most of the morning as all these whitish-looking flies hatched everywhere.  I couldn't believe how silent it was on the creek with so many other people fishing it.

We'll go back in the fall and also hit the other PA streams now that we paid the big bucks for the PA licenses ;).  I did like Rich said and got the combo license, so if anyone wants to suffer a couple of fools on a steelhead trip let me know ;).

I caught one brown trout and missed a REALLY nice brown (I think?) that followed this ugly rabbit streamer I tied up on Rob's inspiration - he followed it along with a buddy right up to my body and actually hit it, but I wasn't tight to the line and missed the hit.  I suspect it was around 18" easy -- but I'll never know now.  Oh well ;).

I am finding that I'm enjoying just catching a fish or two and then watching Beth and other anglers fish.  It's interesting to see how other people cast, and what they do.  I didn't use to do this out of a desperation to "get to catching" but I'm doing this more lately.

I have a few pics but can't find the camera to upload at the moment.....

Oh!  I tied a bunch of these "improved" san juan worms as well.  This is just a chenille worm with no material hanging off the front of the hook -- just the back.  I tied 2 sizes, one on #12 4X streamer hooks and the other #8 on 4x streamer hooks.  Beth had a fish on one of them, and I had bass and bluegill MOBBING them today on the creek out back (not YB).  In my estimation, they look really good going through the water and don't create that weird "V" formation in the current.  Given them a try and see if you like!  Here's a link:

Elk River, WV next weekend!  I can't wait!

Take care!  I know Dan is living it up in caribou country -- I'm looking forward to the next club cast ;).
