{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Rapidan Report 9.28.13

This past Saturday I did a guided trip on the upper Rapidan in the SNP. Caught almost 20 brookies throughout the day. No giant ones, but several were really showing off their spawning colors. We fished mostly beetles with a few ants and a couple mayfly imitations as well. There were some giant mayflies hatching, but not one specific species consistently. The fish were pretty eager to eat, and I even took three out of one pool - which surprised us since we figured the first would've spooked the rest of the pool. We didn't see anyone else was on the river, which was great. The flow has gotten pretty low since there hasn't been much rain lately, but still good enough. There probably isn't much time left before leaf litter becomes a big problem, and before we need to give them a break for the spawn, so I'd get out soon if I were you!
