{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Lake Needwood Largie

Nedak, I think your hook up problems stem from not enough clearance for the point of the hook. IOW, the body's too big. Plus, the rubber legs look mighty large and probably interfere too. If they were splayed out in a horizontal plane they might not be a problem or try more flexible legs or use marabou. Longer shanked hooks and/or hooks with a wider gap will likely help too, say Mustad 3366 which come in a variety of sizes (including size 8) or "stinger" hooks . See attached.

I fished WW this am before the storm.  I used a gurgler and got plenty of hits but I did not land anything.   I wonder if the fly was too big and the hook too small.  I tied the below on a long shank size 8 hook.  Its gurgler silly leg combo.
