Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} A Congratulation is in Order!!!!

Thank you all for the very kind words and support, and thank you Trent for the shout out!  It was truly a surprise and an honor to receive the award, and it was humbling to accept it in front of so many living legends and luminaries of the sport we all love.  To look out and see the smiles on the very faces that largely inspired me to pursue fly fishing as a livelihood was a full circle event for me, and very moving.

Daily I am reminded of how blessed and fortunate I am to do something I truly love for a living, and I daily recognize the responsibility of this as well - to whom much is given, much is required.  For whatever reason, for better or worse, I was given a love, a joy, and a passion for a stick and a string, and the ability to make them sing.  It is therefore my hope and intention to share all of these with as many people and in as many places as possible until I cast my last cast.

It is no small gift in return that I have gotten to know so many of you and made so many friends as a direct result, and for that I am thankful and overjoyed.  Ultimately, it is these relationships that will last, long after the last fish is caught, and the rods are hung up, or passed down to the next generation.  Let's hope and strive to leave them with a better sport, and a better place than even what we have been privileged to experience.

Thank you all again, for all of your support and encouragement over the years.  This has been a greater gift and honor than any award could ever match.

And Al, I wholeheartedly agree, with one caveat.  Melody deserves far more than half of the award!  For every sacrifice I have made in this pursuit, she has undoubtedly made five.  My most sincere thank you to my beloved bride, Melody.

Absolutely marvelous, Dan.  Many, many Congratulations to you and Melody.  She probably deserves at least half of this award.  Very well –deserved.  Thanks for telling us, Trent.

Subject: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} A Congratulation is in Order!!!!

For the first time in three years I attended the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival not as a TPFR member and officer, but as a paid employee for my company. As a result, I spent considerably less time in the TPFR tent and consumed slightly less alcohol than in years past. However, as in years past, I was able to spend time with likeminded folks who love our sport, meet to new people, teach some casting, and spend time with friends old and new. If you haven't made it to this festival yet, mark it on your calendar for next year, it is a day well spent in the Shenandoah Valley with the bucolic Blue Ridge as a back drop. Not bad fishing in the area either.

Each year the Festival holds a VIP dinner where VA wines are raffled off, a silent auction is held and speeches are given. I attend for the prime rib. At any rate, somewhere between the wine auctioning/speeches and Dalton winning some amazing fish art, Beau Beasley took to giving out the Virginia Fly Angler of the Year award. In years past I have seen people honored that I hardly knew but had a tremendous amount of respect for.  This year, it was great to watch someone with whom I am close friends with and have a tremendous amount of respect for, and who deserves the recognition  be honored with this award….

Ladies and Gentleman please join me in congratulating Dan Davala for being honored as the Virginia Fly Angler of the Year!

Dan, well done and well deserved sir.

-Trent Jones
